Macclesfield | Danil Sugakov
dark & dramatic open-plan kitchen
MACCLESFIELD | DANIL SUGAKOV
This project, situated in Macclesfield,, was designed around a bold and considered brief: to create a dramatic yet liveable open-plan space that flows seamlessly from kitchen through dining to living room. The client sought a kitchen that would make a striking visual impact without sacrificing warmth or function.
The design pairs matte black handleless cabinetry with rich smoked oak upper units and island panels, creating a layered, sophisticated palette. Light quartz worktops run across both the perimeter run and the large central island, providing contrast and lifting the overall composition. The continuous large-format stone floor tiles, laid throughout the kitchen, dining, and living areas, tie the entire open-plan space together and enhance the sense of volume and flow.
A key feature of the space is the bespoke ceiling-mounted extractor, housed within a custom-built structural coffer above the island. This architectural detail centres the kitchen visually while discreetly accommodating ventilation, preserving clean lines and avoiding the visual bulk of a traditional hood.
the design
The island serves as the focal point of the kitchen, offering a generous worktop surface with an integrated hob and space for casual dining. Its smoked oak panelling mirrors the upper cabinetry, grounding the island within the wider design and creating a cohesive, furniture-like quality. On the perimeter run, full-height matte black tower units house integrated appliances, including built-in ovens, keeping the kitchen highly functional without interrupting the visual calm.
Beyond the kitchen, the design extends naturally into the dining and living space. Crittall-style glazed doors flood the room with natural light, framing garden views and reinforcing the indoor-outdoor connection. A custom-built media wall with slatted timber panelling and open shelving anchors the living area, echoing the warm wood tones used throughout the kitchen and creating a coherent design language across the entire floor plan.
The result is an interior that feels considered and curated at every level, dramatic enough to impress, yet entirely comfortable to live in day-to-day.
